 While the play is very funny, its underlying goal is to foster a positive attitude toward mathematics. The problems to be solved include cracking a number code, figuring out the missing numbers to complete a number pattern, finding a child of medium height and working out how to calculate the amount of pet food equal to that child when there are no scales on hand. The play invites the audience to participate in solving the mathematical dilemmas woven into the story.
We believe SHALAKAZAP is the best kind of theatrical experience where the audience is entertained, engaged and inspired to think.

SHALAKAZAP is the hilarious interactive story of an inept Apprentice Mathemagician named Tyro who just can't seem to get his formulas correct. Everything changes when he is called upon to save the village of Kindle. Aided by the Fire Chief “Fleet”, the Supreme Mathemagician “Sumah” and the audience, they save the day - and the village.
SHALAKAZAP is written by Ms. Jenny Wake, Artistic Director of New Zealand based Calico Theatre for Young People.
