“Centuries ago there lived…‘A King!’ my little reader will want to say
right away. No children, you are mistaken. Once upon a time there was a
piece of wood…” |
Since Carlo Collodi wrote those magical words over 120
years ago young people the world over have been swept away with the
incredible adventures of PINOCCHIO.
DRIFTWOOD
A Retelling Of The Adventures Of Pinocchio |
Adapted by DEBORAH
WILLIAMS
Design by YVAN MORISSETTE
Original score by BOB BUCKLEY
Directed by WAYNE SPECHT |
|
DRIFTWOOD is a contemporary update of the classic adventures of PINOCCHIO
written by Carlo Collodi over 120 years ago.
Our main character
Josephine is a wise traveler who is drawn to places where young people are
in need. Chip, a troubled twelve year old, is the reason for her arrival.
Soon after they meet, Josephine uses her magical powers - much like the
Blue Fairy of the original story - to transform Chip into a wooden puppet.
He is then launched on a big adventure where he meets a vulture, fox,
bobcat, bear, a pair of weasels, a school of salmon and even finds himself
in the stomach of a whale.
At play’s end Chip has learned many important life lessons (value of
friendship and telling the truth) and leaves determined to mend his ways. |
