Technical Information for Gymnasium Performances

  • Our preferred floor space for the performance playing area is 9m x 6m. We also have a height requirement of 4m.

  • We would appreciate it if 5 chairs were available for our back stage area.
  • We will need access to 1 (one) standard 15-amp wall plug for our sound system.

To enhance everyone’s enjoyment of the production, and to make our visit to the school as non-intrusive and efficient as possible we would greatly appreciate your noting the following suggestions and requests.

  • Our stage manager, will call your school at least two days in advance of our visit to confirm time and date of the performance. The Stage Manager will also ask you questions about access to the gym or performing space. They will also ask if there are any chains across access roads or if there are any special conditions that we should know about.

  • We will normally arrive at your school one-hour prior to the performance. We would greatly appreciate it if three or four older students could assist with unloading the tour vehicle at that time. We would also appreciate it if those same students could assist with striking the set for 30 minutes after the show. Immediate access to the performing area will be greatly appreciated.
  • Our stage manager will coordinate with your representative the timing for the students to assemble in the performing area. It is very important that this coordination be adhered to so that we can ensure that the show start as close as possible to the scheduled start time.
  • Our stage manager will assist with the initial seating of the students on the floor, from the performing area of the gym to the back.  We strongly recommend seating students on the floor, rather than in chairs, as this greatly improves sight lines.
  • Please arrange to have the grade ones enter the gym first so they can be the front row (or two). Our experience of having the kindergarten sit behind the grade ones has been extremely positive.

The following is a checklist of things to do prior to our arrival on the day of performance. Some things are fairly obvious but it is better to be said twice than not at all.

  • Please encourage your students to undertake bathroom breaks before the performance.
  • Please ensure no bells (except the fire alarm) go off during the performance.
  • Please ensure the P.A. system is routed away from the performance area.
  • Please ensure any noisy heating or air conditioning fans are turned off.
  • The cast would greatly appreciate it if they could use a separate room for changing their clothes. They will need access to a washroom.

  • Please ensure that no photographs or recordings take place during the performance.
