| Axis Theatre Company has a mandate to present professional physical theatre to
the communities of its native province, British Columbia, as well as to national and
international audiences. Through the vision of artistic director, Wayne Specht, Axis
Theatre has developed world class, highly original theatre. It has actively pursued
a multi-disciplinary style of presentation, incorporating many theatrical disciplines
including mime, dance, clown, puppetry and acrobatics underscored by inventive text and music.
In its early years, Axis’ primary focus was to educate
and foster appreciation for the performing arts to young audiences
throughout British Columbia. Concurrently, Axis Theatre has developed a repertoire
of thought provoking and entertaining shows that explore more mature themes.
Over its 31 year long and richly creative history Axis has amused, inspired, moved
and sometimes startled thousands of children, families and adults with its theatrical
presentations. Stretching the boundaries of live theatre, Axis has produced
over 50
original works and been rewarded with 16 Jessie Richardson Awards by the Vancouver theatre community.
We are very proud to be based in beautiful Vancouver and tour British
Columbia’s schools and Community Theatre’s on an annual basis. In recent
years we have also had the privilege to tour our shows across Canada,
throughout much of the United States and to Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore,
Malaysia, Australia, England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Belgium,
Austria, Italy, Denmark, Finland and Israel. |
