Remembering Taran

Taran Kootenhayoo worked with Axis Theatre many times, he always brought a humour and quirkiness that was all his own. We are devastated to acknowledge his passing. Taran’s fierce energy and commitment was unparalleled; he brought joy and light into his performances and into the lives of those around him. He was cheeky and irreverent, with a wisdom beyond his years, standing more grounded every time he returned to us.

Taran was about to revive his role of Sqeweqs (The Raven) in Th’owxiya: The Hungry Feast Dish, a show he had been a part of since its first readings. The bravery and humour he brought to the Raven stands out in the memories of the many young people that watched him, over the years we received numerous hand drawn pictures and stories celebrating the trickster energy that Taran emulated so well.

Taran was part of our theatre family. We miss you deeply friend. It’s unbearable to accept that you won’t be walking through the door to greet us this week - you are gone far too soon.

Our deepest condolences go out to Taran’s immediate and extended family on this difficult journey forward. Please hold on, be kind to yourselves, know that your grandson, son, brother, cousin, nephew, friend was loved and cherished by so many people. May the outpouring of love for Taran’s wise words and free spirit bring you comfort. Fly high Taran, may your journey on this earth be just the beginning as you make your way into the spirit world.

We ask that if you wish to support the Kootenhayoo family during this time please donate to the “In Memory of Taran Kootenhayoo” GoFundMe page.
